During the day, they dedicated themselves to preaching Christianity; at night, they made shoes to support themselves. Due to their faith and solidarity, they were persecuted and executed, becoming the patron saints of shoemakers and immortalizing the connection between the craft and the values of humility, perseverance, and purpose.
Over the centuries, the craft gained strength and recognition. In 1305, King Edward I of England instituted standards to standardize footwear manufacturing, a historical milestone that consolidated the profession and paved the way for the quality and standardization processes we know today. Since then, Shoemaker's Day has become a tribute to those who make the art of producing footwear a true vocation.
